OSHA’s bloodborne pathogens standard requires that employers establish a written Exposure Control Plan if they have any employee(s) with occupational exposure.

The plan, which should be specific to each practice location, must detail:

1. those job titles and duties that may expose employees to infection;
2. work routines to minimize exposure;
3. how HBV vaccination may be obtained from the employer;
4. required follow-ups of incidents and exposure;
5. steps to alert employees to biohazards; and
6. recordkeeping requirements.
